Pokhara sits on Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range — Annapurna I through IV, Annapurna South, and the distinctive fishtail peak of Machhapuchhre — rising directly behind it. It's consistently rated among the world's best paragliding destinations, and it's the usual starting point for treks into the Annapurna Circuit, including the shorter, more accessible Poon Hill trek.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the two windows most visitors plan around: daytime temperatures of roughly 10–28°C, clear skies, and the stable thermals paragliding needs. Monsoon season between falls outside both and is best avoided for trekking and flying alike.
What to do there
- Tandem paragliding over Phewa Lake, rated among the top 5 paragliding locations in the world
- The Annapurna Circuit and the shorter Poon Hill trek, both starting from Pokhara
- Boating on Phewa Lake with Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) reflected on the water
- Sarangkot viewpoint at sunrise, for the full Annapurna range
Best time to visit
