Moab

Red-rock desert between two national parks — Arches and Canyonlands.

Moab sits between Arches and Canyonlands National Parks in Utah's red-rock desert — Arches alone holds over 2,000 sandstone arches, Delicate Arch chief among them, while Canyonlands is cut by the Colorado River into dramatic mesas and buttes.

March–October covers the main season: spring (March–May) is best for rafting, rock climbing and mountain biking as snowmelt fills the Colorado River; summer runs hot (90–100°F) and suits river trips and sunset tours; fall (60–80°F) is prime canyoneering and hiking weather. November specifically gets called out by local guides as an underrated pick — daytime highs in the high 50s–60s°F with easy-to-find campsites.

What to do there

  • Delicate Arch and the 2,000+ sandstone arches of Arches National Park
  • Canyonlands National Park, carved by the Colorado River into red-rock mesas and buttes
  • Spring whitewater rafting on the Colorado River's snowmelt-fed rapids
  • Canyoneering and mountain biking on Moab's slickrock trails in fall

Best time to visit
